The requirements for obtaining the title Biofeedback– or Neurofeedback- Therapist/Trainer are listed in our training regulations.

Completion of the advanced vocational training to become a Biofeedback- or Neurofeedback-therapist is contingent upon approbation as a medical doctor or psychologist (on request in exceptional and duly justified cases also for qualified psychologists with focus on clinical psychology). 
On the other hand, advanced vocational training with the purpose for qualifying as a Biofeedback- or Neurofeedback-trainer is open to and can be completed by persons with a qualification in health case (e. g. Physiotherapists, nurses (m/f), occupational therapists, scientists of sport, speech therapists, and natural health professionals). 
In exceptional and duly justified cases, the committee of advanced vocational training may also accept interested parties with different professional qualifications for advanced vocational training. 
The contents of the advanced vocational training depend on the intended title: 

Biofeedback-Therapist:
1. 112 hours theoretical education: these hours are divided into 48 hours basic training (basic course I to III), as well as 64 hours special training through advanced seminars (so-called F-courses). The successful attendance of at least one F-course (16 hours) in the field „pain“ is obligatory.

2. 10 hours supervision
3. 60 hours practicing Biofeedback-treatments
4. 10 hours self-experience
5. successful completion of the final examination 

Biofeedback-Trainer:
1. 152 hours theoretical education: these hours are divided into 40 hours basic training (basic course I to IV), 48 hours fundamental training (fundamental course I to III), as well as 64 hours special training through advanced seminars (so-called F-courses). The successful attendance of at least one F-course (16 hours) in the field „pain“ is obligatory.

2. 15 hours supervision
3. 60 hours practicing Biofeedback-treatments
4. 10 hours self-experience
5. Successful completion of the final examination

Neurofeedback-Therapist:
1. 144 hours theoretical education: these hours are divided into 48 hours basic training (basic course I to III), as well as 32 hours special training through advanced seminars (so-called F-courses) in the field peripheral physiological Biofeedback. The successful attendance of at least one F-course (16 hours) in the field „pain“ is obligatory. Furthermore, 64 hours special training through advanced seminars in the field Neurofeedback (so-called NFB-courses I to IV) are required. 

2. 20 hours supervision (10 of these in the field peripheral physiological Biofeedback).
3. 60 hours practicing Neurofeedback-treatments
4. 10 hours self-experience 
5. successful completion of the final examination


Neurofeedback-Trainer:
1. 184 hours theoretical education: these hours are divided into 40 hours basic training (basic course I to IV), 48 hours fundamental training (fundamental course I to III), as well as 32 hours special training through advanced seminars (so-called F-courses). The successful attendance of at least one F-course (16 hours) in the field „pain“ is obligatory. Furthermore, 64 hours special training through advanced seminars in the field Neurofeedback (so-called NFB-courses I to IV) are required.
2. 30 hours supervision (15 of these in the field peripheral physiological Biofeedback) 
3. 60 hours practicing Neurofeedback-treatments
4. 10 hours self-experience 
5. successful completion of the final examination

Special Certificates
It is possible to obtain special certificates in the field peripheral physiological F-courses. For this, the successful attendance of the following courses is required:

1. Basic courses I to IV (40 hours theoretical education) 
2. Fundamental courses I to III (48 hours theoretical education) 
3. At least one F-course in the field peripheral physiological Biofeedback (16 hours theoretical education) 

Supervision
Supervision may be completed in the form of a dyadic individual supervision or in larger groups. 2 hours group supervision is equivalent to 1 hour dyadic individual supervision. Approved supervisors are recorded in a register which can be obtained from the Board of the Biofeedback Association, from the homepage of the association or from members of the commission for advanced training. The Board organizes group supervisions in the course of its annual meeting.

Case studies
It is necessary that the treatment of at least 5 patients should last not less than 60 hours. At least one of these has to be a pain patient. An appropriate documentation of the treatment is obligatory.


Self-Experience
Every advanced vocational training participant has to undergo a certain number of hours of self-experience depending on the particular qualification (see above). 

Final Examination
Final examinations take place in the course of the annual meetings. Participants have to propose a written motion for recognition as Biofeedback-trainer or Biofeedback–therapist by proving the above-mentioned criteria. 

 

Teaching Therapists and Supervisors
The teaching therapists and supervisors that are approved by the DGBfb are recorded in a register which can be obtained from the Board of the Biofeedback Association, from the homepage of the association or from members of the commission for advanced vocational training. The designation as approved teaching therapist or supervisor is contingent upon the following requirements: 

• Recognition as Biofeedback-therapist
• Practice in the field Biofeedback for at least 5 years
• Experienced in several fields of indications, proof of a broad expertise in the field Biofeedback, teaching experience.
In exceptional and duly justified cases, persons with a limited area of expertise may also be recognized as supervisors (e.g. supervisor with the area of expertise “incontinence”). They may only supervise those cases that concern patients suffering from disorders in the particular area of expertise.

Interim Arrangement
Concerning the approval as Biofeedback–therapist / Biofeedback–trainer the following interim arrangement applies: 

Those who have attended a DGBfb course before the commencement of the new training regulations, will be examined according to the old training regulations

The fees for the advanced vocational training, the final examination and the processing of the applications as supervisor for Biofeedback can be inspected on the homepage of DGBfb e.V. in the latest Advanced Vocational Training Program.
